AKB48 achieved another million seller this past week with their 25th single, “GIVE ME FIVE!” The single sold more than 1.287 million copies, easily taking #1 on the charts. The single also achieved the 4th highest first-week sales in history, behind AKB48′s singles “Flying Get” (1.354 million), “Everyday, Kachusha” (1.334 million), and “Kaze wa Fuiteiru” (1.300 million).
AKB48 now solely holds the record among female artists (group or solo) for most consecutive million-selling singles at 6, surpassing the streak of 5 set by Pink Lady more than 33 years ago. They also now have a total of 12 number-one singles, surpassing Morning Musume’s previous record (11) among female groups.
